An End to Arsenal Captain curse?

Arsenal are currently glowing under Mikel Arteta, it however remains unclear if Mikel Arteta`s choice of captain will break the Arsenal captain curse.

Arsenal football club has had an history of captains leaving under unclear circumstances. In most of the cases, there is always dissatisfaction and betrayal written all over their faces.

Players who left Arsenal as captains include;

Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas took over Arsenal`s captaincy in the year 2008.He became the youngest player ever in the history of the club at only 21 years of age.At the time of being named the captain,he was arguably Arsenal`s best player.

He however would later exit to Barcelona at a time Arsenal needed him the most.

This broke his relationship with the fans and turned him from the highly glorified player to a hated one.Some fans even burnt his shirts.

Having come from Arsenal academy,Cesc Fabregas would later break the hearts of Arsenal fans by choosing to join London rivals Chelsea from Barcelona.

Though some reports indicated the Spaniard wanted back to Arsenal but the former boss Arsene Wenger couldn`t let him back.

Robin van Persie

Despite winning the golden boot with Arsenal,Robin Van Persie became increasingly unsatisfied with Arsenal for what he termed as lack of trophies.

He would then leave for Manchester United.Being the Arsenal captain and joining a rival like Manchester united wasn`t something the fans would forgive him for.

He went ahead to win the Premier League with Manchester United and was given a guard of honor at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite scoring many goals for Arsenal and being the captain,Arsenal fans never want to relate with Robin van Persie either as a club legend or former player.They see him as someone who betrayed them.

Laurent Koscielny

Laurent Koscielny became Arsenal`s captain after Robin Van Persie.He was still the captain in post Wenger era. He however shocked many after failing to show up for pre season tour.

After the pre season tour snub he chose to join French side Bordeaux despite being one of the defenders Arsenal was looking to rely on that season.

Pierre Emerick Aubamayeeng

PEA is the recent Arsenal captain to leave under unclear circumstances.The Gabonese had had an amazing career with Arsenal; winning the golden boot,FA cup and the community shield.

At the time of his exit he had signed a new contract making him the highest paid player at the club.

Things however went south after his new contract as his performance dropped.The new Manager,Mikel Arteta wasn`t happy and would drop him occasionally.Aubamayeng then missed training which saw Mikel Arteta suspend him for a couple of games.

Arsenal and Aubamayeng agreed to terminate the player`s contract which saw him join Barcelona even at lower wages.
