Wolves confirmed the sacking of their head coach Bruno Lage. The 46 year old Portuguese together with his backroom staff on Sunday afternoon were informed by the Wolves board that their services are no longer required at Molineux. This followed a 2-0 defeat on Saturday in the hands of Moyes’s Westhampton that left the club’s hierarchy with with no confidence and trust that Lage was in a position to transform the prevailing situation and immediate action was imminent to salvage the club from relegation threat. Injuries had robbed Wanderers striking options with Raul Jimenez sidelined with groin & knee injury picked in pre-season, so was the summer signing Sasa Kalajdzic with damaged knee ligament. Defensively, Bruno had taken a bite in the hand by selling out the defense pillar & club captain Conor Coady leaving Wolves vulnerable at the back.

Lage joined wolves in June 2021 following the departure of Espirito Nuno who left the club on mutual consent following poor performance. Since then, Bruno guided Wolves to 10th place finish in 2021-2022 EPL season and left good memories of football victories notably against former English giants Manchester United which saw him being awarded manager of the month.

“Bruno is an excellent coach, a hardworking and dedicated manager, and a warm, wise and honest man. He and his staff have been a pleasure to work with throughout their time at Wolves, so it is with much sadness that we have had to make what has been a difficult decision” said Jeff Shi through club’s statement report. “I honestly have no doubts about Bruno’s ability, and I’m sure he will succeed elsewhere, however the team’s form and performances over the last few months mean that we have no choice but to act. On behalf of everyone at Wolves, I would like to place on record our gratitude to Bruno and his coaching team for all their efforts during their time with the club, and wish them the very best for the future.” He added.
