The 2022 Golden boy nominee shortlist has youngsters from Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona, Manchester United and other European giants. The award by sports journalist to a young footballer in Europe’s top football leagues has some great names to it including Lionel Messi in 2005. This year’s nominee shortlist for the golden boy award has some top talents that could shape and define football for the next decade.
Anthony Elanga
Manchester United’s and Swedish forward Anthony Elanga is among those nominated for golden boy award. Anthony Elanga found a breakthrough to United’s first team after Mason Greenwood was suspended. He’s since registered two goals and 3 assists for Manchester United in all his premier league appearances. His ball movement and tracking back to defence has seen United’s new manager, Eric Ten Hag choose him over Christiano Ronaldo
Pedri and Gavi
Also nominated are Barcelona and La Masia graduates Pedri and Gavi. La Masia –Barcelona’s football academy has often produced top talents including, Cesc Fabregas, Lionel Messi, Andre Iniesta, Gerrard Pique and their current Manger Xavier Hernandez.
Gavi and Pedri are slowly becoming a reincarnation of the Xavi-Iniesta duo. Pedri having won the 2021 Golden Boy award, has been again nominated in this year’s award.
Marquinhos
Arsenal signed Marquinhos from Sao Paulo in a fee in the range of £ 3 million. The winger has since then featured once for the gunners in the Europa League and he scored. Liverpool has Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliot on the list. Carvalho arrived from Portugal to Anfield and is already making his presence felt having scored 90+ winner against Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Karim Adeyemi, Jude Bellingham and Giovanni Reyna all in the 40-man shortlist means Borussia Dortmund has got more players nominated than any other club. Other players nominated are; Real Madrid and French midfielder, Eduardo Camavinga, Ansu Fati and Brian Brobbery from Ajax.
