LFC U21’s 5th Straight Win: 1-0 Victory Over Leicester Away

Leyton Stewart from LFC lone goal of the game broke the deadlock shortly after half-hour mark as the reds` youngsters cruised past their opponent at Seagrave training ground on Saturday evening.

Barry Lewtas, LFC U21 head coach was left praising the youngster in his post match conference. ‘Played forward, he ran in behind & took it really well on his left side. Really pleased with the goal.’ Lewtas told Liverpoolfc.com.

The visitors created numerous chances in the second period of the game to cement their lead with the best chance coming as penalty late in the game which the goal scorer failed to convert from the penalty spot. This left the gaffer lamenting on the chances missed in that period. ‘We had a lot more control of the game in second half, so that was probably another chance where we could have just maybe put the game to bed. They were always a threat at 1-0, that’s just the way it goes.’

LFC U21 lineup included three senior squad members who needed minutes of regular game time to hit the ground running. Nat Phillips, Fabio Carvalho and LFC new boy Arthur Melo who was acquired on loan from Juventus on the closing day of transfer window.

‘They are top level professionals who add to our group not just in terms of performance, the young lads also get to see what elites looks like’ Barry said. It works both ways, we can give them some minutes and they are also able to show us their professionalism and why they are where they are’ he added.
