January Transfer Window Round Up: dominating the midseason madness with explosive deals

The January transfer window which officially opened on 1st of January 2023 is slowly taking shape. The transfer window is set to close on the 31st of January, meaning clubs willing to strength their teams have just a month to do so.
Some big clubs have already made big moves for big players while others are still negotiating deals. With tight title race in Europe`s top five league, there is no doubt this is going to be an interesting transfer window.
We take a look at some of completed transfers and on-going deals.

Teams with changes in the January Transfer window

Chelsea

The London club has the busiest in this transfer window. Chelsea has already reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid over the signing of 23 year old Portuguese forward Joao Felix. The details of the agreement are; €11m loan fee 6 months, 100% salary covered (£280k/week) and no buy option.

Just before Joao Felix deal, the blues had announced the signing of French and Monaco defender Benoite Badaishille at a fee of €38m.Chelsea under their new ownership have been busy to rebuild their squad since the departure of Thomas Tuchel The blues also announced the signing of Ivory Coast striker, David Datro Fofana from Norwegian champions Molde. Fofana, 20, joins for a reported £8m-10m on a six-year deal until 2029, with the option to extend it by one. Chelsea has signed midfielder, Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama for a fixed fee of €12.5m.The midfielder had already arrived in London with his family from Brazil.

While all these have happened in the January transfer window, Chelsea had also signed RB Leipzig midfielder, Christopher Nkunku.The midfielder will however join later in July. Currently sitting 10th in the premier league, Chelsea are likely to make more moves during this window.

Liverpool

Having made some of the best January signings in the history of the premier league, Liverpool have already secured the signature of Cody Gakpo from PSV.The Dutch who also had an impressive run in the world made his first appearance for the club in a 2-2 draw against Wolves.

Liverpool head coach, Jürgen Klopp has however hinted at spending more money in this transfer window even after buying Gakpo. “We cannot play monopoly.”Klopp said
The reds have also been linked with Argentine and Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez. Fernandez who won the young player of the tournament in the just ended FIFA World Cup had also been linked with a move to Chelsea.
The so many days left before the transfer window closes, it will be fun to watch how things unfold.

Atletico Madrid

After letting Joao Felix join Chelsea on loan, Atletico Madrid have inquired about the availability of Dutch and Barcelona forward,Memphis Depay. Memphis haven`t had much playing time at Barca after the arrival of Roberto Earlier reports had suggested the Dutch could rejoin Manchester United.

Arsenal

The English league leaders have been reluctant yet so keen on who to pursue in this transfer window. After what looked like missing out on Joao Felix, reports indicates Arsenal`s focus had always been Shaktar Donesk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Even though there is a bit of a stalemate on the valuation of the player, the Ukrainian star wants the Arsenal move. Arsenal is likely trying to create room for incomings by selling some of the players.Cedric has been linked with a move to Fulham but the deal is yet to materialize.

There are also reports that arsenal could make a move for a striker in this January transfer window to replace the injured Gabriel Jesus. Jesus will be out till March.

Manchester United

After missing out on Joao Felix, United have turned their focus and Besiktas forward Wout Weghorst.Wout Weghorst is currently on loan to Besiktas from Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with both Burnley and Besiktas.

The January transfer window has been wild–some big moves from some of the top clubs in Europe just before mid-month. Chelsea has been seemingly the busiest team so far, making several notable signings including Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, Benoite Badaishille from Monaco and Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama. Liverpool has also made a notable signing in Cody Gakpo from PSV; with head coach Jurgen Klopp hinting at more money being spent during this window.

Atletico Madrid is looking to fill the void left by Joao Felix by inquiring about the availability of Memphis Depay from Barcelona. Arsenal, Manchester United and other clubs are also looking to make moves to improve their teams before the transfer window closes on January 31st. It will be interesting to see how the transfer window unfolds in the coming days.
